Michael Collins House Museum is excited to host a special evening of informal history talks, History Scoops, at De Barras Folk Club in Clonakilty on Friday, 31st January at 8:00 PM. This engaging event will feature three distinguished historians discussing their latest publications and research, providing fresh insights into the Irish Revolution and the enduring legacy of Michael Collins.
This special event is in honour of the late Michael Collins House historian Dr.Alan McCarthy who was the brainchild of previous ‘History Scoops’ events as a way of bringing his enthusiasm for history to a new audience in an informal and enjoyable atmosphere. Michael Collins House will also team up with Clonakilty Community College and history teacher Kieran Doyle for a private event earlier in the day featuring several talks for the students there. Again, this event will honour Alan and his work with the students there with different projects over his years at the museum.
The evening’s speakers include:
- Cal McCarthy, Michael Collins House historian, will present his new book and delve into his research on the afterlife and legacy of Michael Collins. His work explores the ways Collins’ image and memory have been shaped over time, both in Ireland and internationally.
- Eunan O’Halpin, renowned historian and author, will discuss his comprehensive research and recent publication, The Dead of the Irish Revolution, which examines the impact of those who lost their lives during the revolution, shedding light on the human cost of Ireland’s fight for independence.
- Eve Morrison, a leading scholar on Irish history, will share insights from her publication, Kilmichael – The Life and Afterlife of an Ambush, which offers a detailed analysis of her research process, her findings and the debate surrounding the ambush.
This informal and interactive event offers attendees an opportunity to engage with leading experts in Irish history in a relaxed setting, ideal for history enthusiasts and those with a keen interest in the legacy of Michael Collins and the Irish Revolution.
